At the time of this posting, there are 2 days until the 2024 Presidential Election. So many of us are feeling anxious and unsettled, and for good reason. As we fight to defend our democracy, the most important thing one can do is simply vote. Or is it so simple?
In this documentary, directed by Liz Garbus and Lisa Cortés, we follow political experts, legal scholars, and politicians (specifically Stacey Abrams), for a history lesson on voter suppression in the US and how conservative legislators continue to game the system by gerrymandering, increasing voting restrictions in racially-diverse regions, instituting voter ID laws, and much more. The film also features a rich score, stunning animation, and Janelle Monáe’s “Turntables”, which was written as a companion for the documentary.
